Food Service Technician

Intro:

JOB SUMMARY: The Food Service Technician is responsible for daily preparation of dishes and utensils for each classroom and for the Adult Center; delivery of prepared food to classrooms and the Adult Center; retrieval of dirty dishes and utensils; dishwashing.

SUPERVISOR:  Dually responsible to the Director of the Chattanooga Children’s Program and the Director of the Adult Center.

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Permanent Part-time, hourly/non-exempt


Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Basic literacy skills: Ability to read, write and follow written instructions.  
  2. Basic math skills: Ability to count, chart and measure.
  3. Previous experience in the Food Service field is required. (Participation in a food service-related work adjustment or training program will substitute for experience requirement.)
  4. While a HS Diploma/GED is not required for this position, it is preferred. Should this position be expanded to include additional duties a HS Diploma/GED may be required. Additionally, a HS Diploma/GED would likely be required to move up to other positions within the agency.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A health record as well as a documented negative TB skin test or chest x-ray.
  2. Employee must be physically capable of performing the duties listed below including lifting up to 25 pounds in a dishpan, pushing a dish cart up and down a ramp multiple times a day.
  3. Employee must maintain a clean appearance and observe best health practices including hand washing, wearing gloves when necessary and obeying all health department regulations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  1. Counting of needed dishes and utensils for all classrooms and the Adult Center
  2. Distribution of panned food to each classroom and the Adult Center
  3. Return of all dishes, utensils and left-over food to the kitchen
  4. Scraping, soaking, and washing of all dishes
  5. Assists in the cleaning of equipment used in food transport. as directed by the Director of the Chattanooga Children’s Program or the Director of the Adult Center
  6. Assists in maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of food preparation and transport areas.
  7. Adherence to kitchen safety rules and the Tennessee Department of Health and Environmental regulations. This includes daily testing of chlorine levels in the commercial dishwasher.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of the Chattanooga Children’s Program and the Director of the Adult Center
